Brian Schwartz is Sr. Vice-President, Investments at Great-West Financial® as head of U.S. commercial mortgage production and portfolio management.  Mr. Schwartz and his staff have grown the portfolio from less than $1 billion in 2004 to over $4.4 billion today.  During this time the portfolio has maintained the lowest risk based capital requirements as determined by the NAIC.

Mr. Schwartz joined Great-West in August 2003, with the responsibility for reviewing and assessing all aspects of the then recently acquired Canada Life U.S. Mortgage Investments business line.  He has been running the day-to-day operations for the commercial mortgage platform for the past 10+ years which includes production through a correspondent network of 20 mortgage banking firms spanning more than 50 offices throughout the nation.  Mr. Schwartz is responsible for setting direction, policies, and guidelines reporting to the US Chief Investment Officer and Board of Directors.  In his role he also works with Great-West’s executive vice president and global chief investment officer to originate and service U.S. mortgage investments for subsidiaries in Canada and the UK.

Mr. Schwartz has over 23 years of lending experience throughout the United States.  Prior to joining Great-West, he was with Churchill Mortgage in San Diego, California where he structured and closed debt and equity transactions with several life companies.

Mr. Schwartz graduated with a B.A from the University of California, Los Angeles.  He is an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association and the Life Mortgage & Real Estate Officers Council.
