DDP: Downtown sees $5.7 billion in new development
More than $5.7 billion in 84 development projects were completed or broke ground in Denver over the past five years – and there’s more to come.
The Downtown Denver Partnershipgave a rundown of investment in downtown Denver to nearly 600 people who attended its annual Development Forum this morning at the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. The projects, outlined on the Downtown Denver Development Map, include 9,919 new residential units, 4.4 million square feet of new office inventory and 3,569 new hotel rooms.
“There are very few markets in the country that can report this kind of this kind of data,” said Randy Thelan, DDP vice president of economic development. “It’s incredible what we’ve been able to accomplish,” he said prior to program that spotlighted developers and projects underway or planned.
Thelan noted that, unlike in the past, new development is geographically dispersed throughout the downtown area. We’ve been able to see quality growth in virtually every quarter of downtown,” he said.
Downtown Denver is in the running – along with Arlington, Texas – for the National Medal of Honor Museum,an approximately $100 million facility estimated to draw 1 million people per year. Thelan urged people who want to see the facility in Denver to make their thoughts known on the museum’s Facebook page.
