Jim Lorenzen graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. in Business Administration in 1976 and earned an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1978.

Starting a real estate career in 1982 with brokerage firm Marcus and Millichap, Jim found his niche in multifamily. He brokered over 300 apartment transactions ranging from four to 400 units across Colorado’s Front Range.

After Jim purchased four apartment buildings in Denver’s urban core, he employed two property management companies and became frustrated with their limitations; he wanted a company that provided both top-tier management and offered renovation services for his buildings. In 1996, Jim manifested his vision by launching his own property management company.

The first 12 months of Jim’s company revolved around managing and renovating his buildings, but on Oct. 19, 1997, Cornerstone became official with its first client — the management and renovation of an 18-unit building at 1465 Elm Street.

Cornerstone Apartment Services, Inc. of today is the largest apartment management company in Denver, managing over 200 buildings and 4,250 units. Aside from apartment management, Cornerstone has executed over 100 full-scale renovation projects. It’s truly become an urban lifestyle company, and the only apartment management company that focuses exclusively on Denver’s urban core. The key to Cornerstone’s success is its ability to leverage scale to drive revenue, reduce operating costs and maximize cash flow for its clients.
