Mike is responsible for design and construction for all building types at the University of Colorado Boulder. He will utilize his skills to help CU continue its excellence in student experience, architectural quality, connection to the city, innovation, and providing world-class facilities to support student success. Mr. Turman sees the Director of Design and Construction position as an opportunity for him to share, expand upon, and develop new strategies, processes, and innovations to support student growth by helping to provide spaces and places that fuel collaboration, connection, and relationships to build the future leaders of our world. Mike is excited to have the opportunity to build world-class university spaces and facilities that will continue to support CU’s global legacy. Before joining CU Boulder, Mr. Turman worked for the Auraria Higher Education Center as their Director, Projects, Safety, and Security. In this role, he was responsible for delivering 150 to 200 projects worth between $50 and $100 million annually. He also led four operations and maintenance departments – electrical, access control, life safety, and environmental health and safety, for the Auraria Campus, Colorado’s largest campus by student body population. Mike is a Downtown Denver Partnership Leadership Program alumnus, and his Tivoli Quad and Science Building projects are previous Denver Downtown Partnership Projects of the Year. Mr. Turman’s other previous work experience includes design and construction in the k-12, higher education, healthcare, the federal government, and pharmaceutical markets locally, nationally, and internationally with Jacobs Engineering Group.

Mr. Turman has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado and has a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Colorado State University.

He enjoys spending time with his wife (Becky) and three children (Meara, 16; Ben, 10; and Cooper, 7). He also enjoys tennis, coaching, soccer, basketball, fly fishing, traveling, and camping with friends and family.
