“Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”
-Sir Winston Churchill.
This powerful quote from Churchill has become a mantra for Paul Sheppard, the VP of Acquisitions and Development for NewMark Merrill’s Mountain States region. Throughout his 24-year commercial real estate career, he’s continued through adversities and triumphs. His courage to move forward has led him to a successful track record in adding value in everything he does: development, lease negotiations, asset management, merchandising, tenant relations, construction management and budgeting.
Most recently, Paul served as President for SheppCo Holdings, where he led investments in real estate properties, ensuring steady growth, value appreciation and consistent returns for the firm’s stakeholders. Previous to that role, he was VP Leasing for ShopCore Properties, where he was responsible for a 3.5 million square foot portfolio in CO, AZ, TX and IL. In his new role, At NewMark Merrill, Paul will be focused on expanding retail presence in the Mountain States region.
Like so many Coloradoans, Paul is drawn to the outdoors and mountains. He is an avid skier and can frequently be found atop the slopes at many of Colorado’s nearby resorts. Paul loves to fly fish and seeks out the best BBQ joints in every city he visits. He’s an advocate for youth sports and donates his free time to youth sports organizations throughout Colorado. To Paul, family is everything. He and his wife, Amanda have two boys, James and Thomas, and a dog, Cookie. “My family is what drives me in all I do,” said Paul. “Without them I would not be who I am today.”
Paul grew up in Corsicana, Texas, and graduated from University of California, Los Angeles. He’s an active member of ICSC where he served as NextGen chair for the Rocky Mountain region from 2011-2013.
With over 24 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, Paul is a seasoned real estate professional and entrepreneur. Paul has successfully acquired, managed, and developed a portfolio of assets that consistently deliver strong returns. He has worked for publicly traded REITs including Regency Centers (REG), Brixmor Property Group (BRX) & Site Centers (SITC), and most recently spent 7 years helping Blackstone (BX) build their retail portfolio company ShopCore Properties. Paul’s extensive experience and professional network span the Western United States, Texas, and the Midwest.
