Decarbonization of the Built Environment
Decarbonizing our new and existing buildings is the climate change challenge of our time. New construction often requires materials whose embodied carbon may be greater than the building's lifetime operational carbon. Retrofitting existing buildings has its own sets of hurdles but largely avoids the large initial spike in embodied carbon while still having an operational carbon footprint. This panel will discuss various solutions and tradeoffs to tackling Whole Life Carbon in their work.
